Mang Thit – Kingdom of bricks and ceramics
PANO – Nestled on the banks of the poetic Co Chien River, the 100-year old brick and ceramic village of Mang Thit in the southern province of Vinh Long is one of the most attractive tourist destinations in the province.
Stretching around 30km, the village is one of the most famous and largest brick making villages in the Mekong River Delta. Products of the Co Chien riverside brick-making village have been exported to various countries for many years.
Touring the village, tourists feel like they are in a different world. They can enjoy beautiful landscapes formed by hundreds of old kilns that look like tiny castles in the sun. Kilns in the village were built close to each other, creating a beautiful and unique setting. Seen from above, they look like small castles.
In the past, Mang Thit was a prosperous traditional craft village. Due to poor transport systems, brick and ceramic products of the village were mainly transported to other regions by boat.
At present, just a few kilns in the village are working. From a so-called kingdom of bricks, the village has now become an attractive destination for tourists and photographers.
Below are some photos of the Co Chien riverside brick-making village.
