Nearly 700 households live on the island, relying mainly on fishing and marine aquaculture. Some fishermen use small boats to fish in coastal waters, while others take larger vessels farther offshore. Wooden fishing boats line the shore, and houses nestle along tree-covered rocky slopes. Clean, winding concrete lanes, national flags and the absence of heavy traffic reflect the island's peaceful way of life.

At the heart of the residential area stands the historic Tri Nguyen Communal House, a cultural and spiritual center where generations of fishermen have honored the pioneers who settled the land and Nam Hai, the Sea God believed to protect them on their voyages.

Maintaining security and safety on the island are officers and soldiers of Tri Nguyen Border Checkpoint of the Border Post of Nha Trang Port Border Gate. Their duties include conducting patrols, monitoring residents and vessels, inspecting public ferries and reminding operators and passengers to comply with waterway safety regulations.

Non-commissioned Major Le Quan, a staff at the station, said the unit also works with local authorities to raise awareness of fisheries regulations and combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing. Border guard personnel remain closely connected with the community, providing rescue assistance and helping residents secure their aquaculture cages, rafts and boats during storms.

In recent years, Tri Nguyen's natural beauty has also created opportunities for community-based tourism. Many families have turned fish-farming rafts into floating dining spots, where visitors can go sightseeing, fish and enjoy fresh seafood. The services provide additional income for local residents while showcasing the fishing village's welcoming character.

Minh Thuong, a visitor from Hoi Phu ward, Gia Lai province, said she was impressed by the island's fresh air and peaceful atmosphere. She praised the residents for their friendliness and described sitting on a floating raft, enjoying the sea breeze and watching boats on the bay as a relaxing experience after stressful days at work.

As evening falls, fishing boats gently rock at anchor in Nha Trang Bay, and life on the island returns to its familiar calm. For Tri Nguyen's residents, the sea remains both a source of livelihood and an integral part of their cultural traditions. With the support of border guard personnel, the community continues to preserve its peaceful way of life while welcoming visitors to experience life in a coastal fishing village.
