Autumn in Lo Lo Chai village
PANO - Nestling beneath Lung Cu Flagpole in Lung Cu commune, Dong Van district, Ha Giang province, Lo Lo Chai village is often described as a “fairy-tale village coming to life.” With autumn's arrival, the village adopts a tranquil and gentle beauty.
The crisp air and gentle golden sunlight of late autumn in Dong Van Karst Plateau are those that greet visitors to the village. The first striking sight was the village's traditional rammed-earth houses, topped with dark brown yin-yang tile roofs. The hand-built stone walls reach head height. Notably, each house displays signboards written in both Vietnamese and English.
According to Sinh Di Gai, the village head and a pioneer of community-based tourism, Lo Lo Chai is home to 119 households with 542 people, primarily of the Lo Lo ethnic group. “More than a decade ago, villagers mainly grew corn and kept small livestock, but now, 42 households are involved in tourism,” he shared. Each family also employs two to four locals, who earn a monthly income between VND 5 and 7 million.
The village’s charm not only lies in the rustic beauty of the houses, but also in the beauty of Lo Lo women in traditional dresses, a sight that leaves many visitors enchanted.
Each season brings its own allure in Lo Lo Chai, yet perhaps the most breathtaking period is late autumn, when the cool air and tam giac mach (buckwheat) flowers line the paths and slopes. These delicate blossoms stretch across valleys and mountainsides, casting a pinkish hue over Lo Lo Chai, adding to the peaceful beauty of this land in the Dong Van Karst Plateau.
