In preparation for the ceremony marking the 70th celebration of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, over the past days, troops and people nationwide have been heading to Dien Bien Phu city, Dien Bien province. Especially, visiting Dien Bien in March, visitors can admire Bauhinia (Hoa Ban in Vietnamese) - the typical flower of the Northwestern region of the country, symbolizing pure and faithful love.

Various celebration activities and new tourism products

The National Tourism Year - Dien Bien and Hoa Ban Festival 2024 with the theme “Glory of Dien Bien Phu - Endless Experiences” was opened on March 16 in Dien Bien Phu city and lasts all year round. It is considered a cultural, economic, and social event, along with the upcoming 70th celebration of the Dien Bien Phu Victory.

According to Chairman of the Dien Bien provincial People’s Committee Le Thanh Do, there are 169 events held within the framework of the festival, such as Vietnamese Cuisine Festival 2024, the People’s Army Newspaper Cycling Tournament “Returning to Dien Bien Phu - People’s Army Newspaper Cup,” among others.

To make preparations for the special event, Dien Bien province decorated its surroundings, upgraded tourist destination infrastructure and restaurants, and embellished cultural and historical relic sites.

According to Do, Dien Bien has the potential to develop historical and spiritual tourism, such as the special national relic sites of the Dien Bien Phu Battlefield Complex, Temple dedicated to war martyrs on the Dien Bien Phu battlefield, and Memorial area of General Vo Nguyen Giap, to name but a few. Therefore, this is an occasion for the province to introduce Dien Bien province and people to tourists, aiming to welcome more than 1.3 million visitors this year.

Meanwhile, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dien Bien province Nguyen Minh Phu noted that the province is home to 19 ethnic groups with unique cultural values. It is considered the province's potential and advantage in cultural tourism, which should be further boosted in the coming time.

In 2024, there will be many new tourism products introduced to domestic and international tourists, featuring the region and local people, including the Xoe dance of the Thai ethnic people and the Khen dance of the H'mong ethnic people. These activities contribute to preserving and promoting traditional cultural values of the Thai and H'mong people in particular, promoting the values of ethnic groups in general, boosting great national solidarity and synergy, for national socio-economic and cultural development in the innovation and integration period.

Besides, the province also opens a highland market space, selling typical agricultural products, and organizes folk games and cultural and art exchanges for local and international tourists.
