Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien emphasized that the contest is of great cultural significance as it highlights the good deeds of the medical sector and restore medical workers’ noble qualities such as love, sacrifice, altruism, compassion which are in danger of going into oblivion in the process of renewal and international integration. Through the contest, the organizing panel expects to honor the doctor's silent efforts to overcome hardships in the fight with diseases and protect patients’ health.

The contest also offers an opportunity for authors to portrait physicians and surgeons with deep philosophical sense. Through real stories covered by writers and journalists, readers would have empathy and better understanding of the doctors who have been working silently even lonely in the battle against illnesses to save patients’ or to protect the community.

The writing contest will run from June 28, 2018 to October 31, 2019.  Every Vietnamese citizen at home and abroad, aged 15 upwards as well as foreigners who are living and working in Vietnam can participate in the contest. Entries will be sent to the address of 138A Giang Vo street, Ba Dinh district, Hanoi or by email: hysinhthamlang@gmail.com.

The awarding ceremony will be broadcast live on VTV1 channel of the Vietnam Television on the occasion of the 64th anniversary of the Vietnamese Doctors' Day (February 27).
