“World No Tobacco Day” observed in Da Nang
PANO - The Ministry of Health (MOH), in association with Da Nang People's Committee and World Health Organization Representative Office in Vietnam, on May 27 held a ceremony to celebrate the “World No Tobacco Day” (May 31, 2018) and the “National No Tobacco Week” (May 25-31) in the Central city of Da Nang.
It is reported that 45 percent of Vietnamese men are smokers. With the policies of the Vietnamese Government and other relevant ministries and agencies, it is hoped that this rate will have dropped to 39 percent by 2020.

In response to the “World No Tobacco Day” and the “National No Tobacco Week,” representatives of the MOH called on individuals and the community to co-operate in promoting information dissemination on the impact of tobacco use on people’s health and the country’s sustainable development.
According to the Global Tobacco Adult Survey (GATS) 2015, Vietnam is among the 15 countries in the world with the highest numbers of smokers and it is estimated that every year, Vietnamese people spend about VND 31,000 billion on cigarettes.
