Village patriarch calls, local people respond

In 1979, A Ghin was elected Secretary of Ro Koi commune's Party Committee. Despite hardships, Secretary A Ghin guided the Ha Lang people to build villages where villagers have enjoyed improved living standards.

At the age of 83, village patriarch A Ghin now owns many hectares of rubber, coffee, cassava, wet rice, and garden. That has resulted from his 44 years of tirelessly working and pioneering to test plant varieties and apply scientific and technological advancements to production.

Village patriarch A Ghin, the first party secretary of Ro Koi commune

He recalled that he, an orphan, grew up thanks to the care of the Ha Lang compatriots. Aged 15, he worked as a liaison person and a cook for troops combating in Bo Y commune, Ngoc Hoi district. In 1960, he was enlisted to an infantry unit. Seventeen years later, he was discharged, returning to his home village.

As the first party secretary of the commune, A Ghin understood the hardships confronting the locals such as difficult life, poverty and hunger, and backward customs. Therefore, he pro-actively reclaimed land and cultivated it, setting a good example for the locals to follow. He even learnt how to plant rubber trees from Company 732 under Army Corps 15 to raise the efficiency of production. He also came to each household to encourage them to eliminate backward customs and concentrate on improving their living conditions and their children’s study.

Following village patriarch A Ghin, many local households have sustainably escaped from poverty. Ro Koi commune now is home to 326.5 hectares of coffee, 925.6 hectares of rubber, 2.4 hectares of macadamia trees, and 19.4 hectares of medicinal plants.

Many locals have contributed their land to build more than 460 meters of concrete village road.

Through close conversations, village patriarch A Ghin has helped the Ha Lang people be more aware of the importance and practicality of Program 1719 and other Party’s guidelines and State’s law. As a result, local people have their knowledge broadened. They well observe State’s law and other regulations, do not follow bad people, feel at ease to stabilize their life, and show absolute trust in the Party and State’s policies.
