More than 160 public health professionals from 31 provinces and cities nationwide have participated in the US-sponsored six-month training programme on applied management in HIV/AIDS prevention and control.

Under the programme which is part of the US President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), training workshops are being held concurrently from June 11-16 in Ha Noi, central coastal Da Nang city and HCM City.

The focus of these workshops is to use simple health and clinical data collection to continually improve the quality of HIV/AIDS services so as to control the spread of the disease in the country through effective care, treatment and prevention.

After finishing the programme, the participants will gather to discuss and draw lessons for devising plans to be carried out in their localities.

The US Government has pledged 59 million USD for Viet Nam's implementation of the 2007 national scheme on HIV/AIDS prevention and control.

Early in May, US Ambassador to Viet Nam Michael Marine worked with Health Minister Tran Thi Trung Chien to discuss the implementation of this action plan.
