Soc Trang is striving to complete eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses by the end of September 2025.

As of February 18, the province has completed work on over 2,230 houses out of the total 8,586 identified for construction or renovation.

Dang Thanh Quang, Director of the provincial Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs said a significant number of poor and near-poor households require new housing under this program, with a total estimated budget of over 445 billion VND (17.4 million USD). Before the Lunar New Year 2025, the province had already completed more than 1,400 homes, ensuring timely handovers that brought joy to families during the holiday season.

To ensure progress and quality, the provincial Party Committee and People’s Committee have continuously inspected and monitored the implementation, addressing obstacles and ensuring smooth execution.

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Van Khoi said eliminating substandard housing is a crucial task in promoting sustainable poverty reduction and improving living conditions. The province has been actively urging localities and relevant sectors to enhance public awareness, swiftly resolve emerging issues, and report any unresolved difficulties to authorities for further action, he noted.
