Outstanding ethnic students honored in Hanoi
PANO - A ceremony to honor outstanding ethnic minority students and youths in 2024 took place on December 28 in Hanoi.
The event was attended by prominent leaders, including Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Do Van Chien.

Since its inception in 2013, the annual program has honored 1,317 exceptional ethnic minority students and youths from across Vietnam. This year marks the 11th event that is organized by the Government’s Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Training and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee.
The 2024 ceremony recognized 125 outstanding individuals from 33 ethnic minority groups, representing 39 provinces and cities.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh applauded the honorees for their academic and personal achievements. He emphasized the importance of improving the educational quality and human resources’ training in remote and mountainous areas. He outlined several priorities, including expanding ethnic boarding schools and improving school infrastructure; providing support such as textbooks, uniforms, and meals for students; incorporating ethnic cultural elements into curriculums to preserve traditions while embracing modern knowledge; promoting bilingual education to safeguard ethnic languages; developing vocational programs tailored to local needs and career aspirations; enhancing high-quality human resources and supporting ethnic youths with employment and startup opportunities.

At the ceremony, Minister-Chairman of the Government’s Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs Hau A Lenh highlighted that the success of the honorees demonstrates the impact of policies on socio-economic development in ethnic regions. He urged the younger generation to recognize their responsibility as pioneers in learning, technological mastery, and innovation, contributing to Vietnam's advancement in the new era.
