Delegates offering incense at Hung Kings Temple in Can Tho city

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended and spoke at the ceremony. The event also saw the presence of former State President Truong Tan Sang, former Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, former permanent member of the Secretariat Le Hong Anh, N.A.’s Standing Vice Chairman Tran Thanh Man, and Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen.

Before the ceremony, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc led a mission of leaders and former leaders of the Party and State to offer incense in tribute to the Hung Kings.

Earlier, the Party and State leaders agreed to build the temple to help people in the city in particular and the Mekong Delta provinces in general to pay tribute to the Hung Kings.

The construction of the temple began on June 18, 2019 in Binh Thuy ward, Binh Thuy district. The project, covering an area of more than 39,000sq.m, was constructed at the total investment of VND 130 billion funded by Van Phu-Invest Investment Joint Stock Company.

The Hung Kings Temple in Can Tho city is built in the shape of the map of Vietnam. Two lakes in the project are seen as a confirmation of Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos.

The project includes a temple, an operating room, a stele house, a courtyard, among others. The temple is built on a square-shaped base on a round lake, symbolizing the traditional philosophy of "square earth and round sky." In the lake, there are 54 stone pillars, representing 54 ethnic groups in Vietnam. The drum-shaped main temple is embraced by 18 surrounding flaps which represent the 18 Hung Kings. Each flap is decorated with patterns commonly seen on Dong Son bronze drums.
