Examining the first patient to undergo Ozaki technique
This is the first time the surgery has been practiced in Vietnam by the medical staff of the Cardiac Center of Hospital E under the support of Prof. Ozaki from Japan. The staff of the center has also made diagnosis on three other cases for more operations with the same technique (Ozaki technique) in the coming time.

According to Director of Hospital E, Prof., Dr. Le Ngoc Thanh, the largely-practiced heart valve replacement technique in the world uses artificial biological and mechanical heart valves with the life span of about 15-20 years. In case the valves are damaged, they must be replaced by new ones. As for the Ozaki technique, however, the doctors regenerate the aortic valve of the patient’s heart from his/her own pericardial membrane. Therefore, the shortcoming posed by artificial valves is solved.

This is a modern technique suitable with heart intervention for the elderly in case of emergency. The technique reduces the cost of treatment for patients, especially when the operation cost is not covered by health insurance. An artificial valve normally costs about VND 40 million. With this technique, patients do not have to buy artificial heart valves, particularly suitable with low-income countries like Vietnam.
