HCM City to build civil status database
Ho Chi Minh City plans to set up a database on civil status to store and manage basic information related to population management of all citizens by 2020, with total cost estimated at VND 260 billion (USD 11.15 million).
This will be part of the city’s common-use shared database system for smart-city development, Tran Vinh Tuyen, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee and head of the smart city management board, said at a recent meeting.
The scale and scope of civil status digitization includes all data related to registration of a birth, death, marriage, marital status, and recognition of parents or children.

Data records before 2015 will be scanned and entered on the database, while data records after 2015 only need to be scanned.
“Leaders of all districts’ people's committees and relevant agencies in localities must be responsible to the city's People's Committee if not completed on schedule,” Tuyen said.
The implementation process, which must be public and transparent, is expected to be completed before the second quarter of 2020.
