Free operations for kids with harelip and cleft palate
PANO – The Operation Smile Vietnam (OSV) will provide free checkups and operations for children with harelip and cleft palate in December, 2016 in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.
The checkups and surgeries will be conducted from December 17 to 23 at Ho Chi Minh City Medicine and Pharmacy University for nearly 100 kids; and from December 19 to 23 at the Vietnam-Cuba Hospital in Hanoi for about 80 needy children.
The children with free operations offered by Operation Smile Vietnam are between 6 to 18 months old and should have the weight between 8 to 12 kgs as well as free from heart diseases, severe malnutrition, high fever, diarrhea or asthma. Besides, patients will be supported part of cost of transportation and accommodation during hospitalization.

Over the past 27 years, the program provided safe surgeries for over 40,000 children nationwide. However, about 3,000 children were born with deformities a year but only a few of them are offered free checkups and treatment.
