Bac Ninh almost completes peak period of substandard housing elimination campaign
The Northern province of Bac Ninh’s steering committee for eliminating temporary and dilapidated housing on February 6 held a meeting to assess the progress of its work so far.
According to reports at the meeting, 133 local households require assistance for home repairs or reconstruction, with a total support budget of 12.1 billion VND (478,828 USD). To date, Bac Ninh has largely completed the peak phase of its campaign targeting these families. In the near future, the province will continue reviewing and assisting disadvantaged households with similar needs to help stabilize their living conditions.
In his remarks, Nguyen Anh Tuan, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and head of the steering committee, urged local authorities to continue assessing the demand for housing improvements. He also recommended strengthening public awareness, and mobilizing support from the entire political system, businesses, and the community to contribute to the campaign.
Previously, the provincial People's Committee developed a plan to eliminate temporary and dilapidated housing based on key principles of direct financial assistance to each household, transparency, and community involvement. The Government provides partial funding, while communities offer support, and beneficiaries take responsibility for organizing the construction. All financial resources must be managed efficiently, ensuring they are used appropriately and in accordance with the law. Under the program, funding for new house construction and repairs stand at 100 million VND per home and 50 million VND per home, respectively.
