PANO – The Kien Giang provincial People’s Committee, in association with the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT), held a conference to introduce solutions and technologies to convert Phu Quoc into a ‘smart city’.

Speaking at the conference, Tran Anh Tuan, a VNPT representative, said VNPT implemented a number of telecommunications applications for the city, including smart wifi, portals, solutions for information security, and stay management. These solutions contributed to developing Phu Quoc into a smart city.

According to Tran Manh Hung, Chairman of the VNPT member council, VNPT installed a fiber optical cable system which serves every household. Phu Quoc is the first area provided with 4G services. VNPT promised to charge lower cable costs than the charges regulated by the Ministry of Information and Communications.

Concluding the conference, Secretary of the Kien Giang provincial Party Committee Nguyen Thanh Nghi said the solutions are necessary to turn Phu Quoc into a modern economic zone. He urged relevant units to cooperate with VNPT to survey demands and to apply advanced technologies in provincial departments and agencies.
