The exercise based on a mock-up that a ferry boat with 50 passengers on board lost control and hit a cargo ship weighing 2,399 tonnes.
Learning about this case, the Ho Chi Minh City Port Authority effectively and promptly collaborated with all relevant units to get required information, and then conduct field search and rescue missions, including taking people out of the water, evacuating passengers from the ships, extinguishing the fire and addressing the oil spill.
The exercise aimed at improving marine operations as well as search and rescue missions, and reviewing cooperation between the Port Authority and all relevant authorities to deal with emergencies.
