The Hoa Hao Buddhist Sect celebrates its 73rd founding anniversary (May 18 on lunar calendar) with a ceremony on July 6 at An Hoa Tu temple in Phu Tan district, the Mekong Delta province of An Giang.
Representatives of the Government’s Committee for Religious Affairs, the Southwestern Region Steering Committee and the Military Zone 9 joined provincial leaders and over 200,000 dignitaries and followers of the Hoa Hao Buddhist Sect at the event.
Seventy three years ago, Hoa Hao Buddhism was founded by Huynh Phu So, a native of Hoa Hao village, Tan Chau district, Chau Doc province (now Phu My town, Phu Tan district, An Giang province).
The religion is thriving in 17 cities and provinces nationwide with more than 2 million followers.
With more than 800,000 followers, An Giang province is regarded as the Holy Land of the sect.
Hoa Hao dignitaries and followers have enthusiastically participated in social and charitable activities in their localities as guided by their seniors.
