The exercise based on a mock-up that a blaze caused by a motorbike was spreading to other vehicles and cargo on Binh Khanh ferryboat with 99 passengers on board. The ferry then went adrift due to its engine failure and many passengers had jumped into the river.
After receiving the news, the city's functional forces has promptly collaborated with all relevant units to extinguish the fire and rescue people, including taking people out of the water and evacuating passengers from the ships. The fire was then quickly controlled by the large-capacity vessel ST-115 of the city's fire fighting and prevention police.
The exercise aims at improving marine operations, proposing measures to cope with unexpected situations as well as inspecting capabilities of organs and units at all levels while doing search and rescue missions.
