PANO – The 2016 Earth Hour Campaign has been echoed by people of all walks of life in Cau Giay Park, Hanoi on March 12th, after the official kick–off event on March 5th.

More than 2,000 youths and volunteers from universities in Hanoi and neighboring provinces joined the event, riding their bikes through the city’s main streets, in response to the campaign.

According to the organizers, the campaign’s ambassadors will have a talk with students in Hanoi on March 14th and 18th. A switch-off ceremony is scheduled to take place at the August Revolution Square at 8.30 pm on March 19th. Hanoi citizens have been encouraged to turn off unnecessary lights and electrical equipment for one hour.

Earth Hour campaign was first launched in 2007 by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). It is the eight time Vietnam and Hanoi capital city join over 7,000 cities from 172 countries world wide in the event to raise public awareness on climate change and energy saving.

The Embassy of Denmark in Vietnam, the Electricity of Vietnam and Daikin Vietnam Company are the sponsors of this year’s campaign.
