PANO – The Phu Yen provincial Labour Federation and Border Guard Command on January 13th handed over 1,000 national flags to fishermen in Tuy Hoa city, Song Cau town, Tuy An and Dong Hoa districts.
The recipients are owners of ships operating in the fishing grounds of Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagoes.
On the occasion, 1,000 plates with the slogan, “Safe group of fishing ships”, were stuck on ships.
Addressing the handover ceremony, President of the Phu Yen provincial Labour Federation Nguyen Thi Thu Van affirmed that the meaningful gifts will be an encouragement to fishermen as well as demonstrate the mainland’s care for the sea and islands, and the fishermen who are firmly holding onto the sea to affirm national sovereignty over sea and islands. This is also seen as an effective activity to promote solidarity among fishermen to raise productivity.
At present, Phu Yen has more than 1,000 fishing ships with a capacity of more than 90CV, and six trade unions with over 700 members.
