PANO - The Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) on February 17th held a ceremony to speed up the construction of the expressway linking Da Nang city with Quang Ngai province.

At the ceremony, VEC pledged to complete components funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the World Bank (WB) with an aim to put several sections of the expressway into operation by the end of 2016.

The Vietnam Expressway Corporation pledges to speed up the construction of the Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway.

Accordingly, bridges and road-bed under eight components funded by JICA will be completed in early November 2016 and by December 30th 2016, the whole components will have been finished.

As for the five components sponsored by WB, by the end of 2016, bridges, road-bed, road foundation and other important items will be basically completed.

The construction of the Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway started in 2013 with a total investment of nearly USD 1.7 billion, covering the distance of 140km. When operational, the expressway will help promote socio-economic development and defence-security mission performance in the central region.

It also facilitates international transportation among Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam through the East-West corridor to a number of seaports in central Vietnam
