PANO – The Vietnamese working class is celebrating the 130th International Labor Day and the 70th anniversary of the day Uncle Ho signed a decision allowing laborers nationwide to enjoy May Day with full salary.

May 1st every year gives an opportunity for the working class in particular and people of all walks of life in general to review the heroic tradition and great contribution of generations of the working class to the nation. Reality has proven that the Vietnamese working class is leader of the revolution through its elite: the Communist Party of Vietnam. The Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh have always paid special attention to taking care of and developing the working class.

In 1930, the first political platform of the Communist Party of Vietnam defined the role and historic mission of the working class as the leader and the core force of the working class - peasantry alliance. In the current renewal process, industrialization and modernization, the Vietnamese working class has great historical missions being: the ruling class via the practice of power of the Communist Party of Vietnam; holding advanced production methods; the vanguard in the cause of socialism construction; the leading force in the cause of industrialization and modernization and international integration; the core force in the working class - peasantry - intelligentsia alliance under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

The working class of Vietnam has gradually been developing in both quantity and quality, in all economic sectors. The force has made major contributions to the total social products and the State budget. The vast majority of laborers places their absolute confidence in the leadership of the Party, well implements policies and laws of the State. They are also fast at applying science to production, gradually master advanced technologies, initially forming a group of intellectual workers.

The working class forms the firm socio-political basis for the Party and State and a foundation in the great national unity bloc, contributing actively to the building of a healthy and strong political system. The strong growth and maturity of the working class of Vietnam represent a very important factor and one of the prerequisites for the implementation of the renewal process and the industrialization and modernization of the country to successfully advance to socialism.

In the new context of the revolution, the working class and the trade union of Vietnam are standing both new opportunities and challenges, especially as the TPP has been signed and will kick in. To deserve the leadership role in the revolution, the working class needs to take more care of its workers, provide more education, training and retraining, to develop of itself in both quantity and quality. The working class is also required to enlighten workers and provide them with firm political stance, higher sense of organization and discipline, sharp and firm willpower in face of complicated situations and spirit of great national unity, solidarity and international cooperation.

Defense workers and employees are part of the Vietnamese working class. They have always maintained and promoted the traditions and nature of the class, while upholding the quality of Uncle Ho’s soldiers. To meet the task requirements in the new context, defense industrial enterprises, trade unions in the military and defense workers and employees should thoroughly and effectively implemented the resolution of the 12th National Party Congress and educate defense workers to be both good at their expertise and firm in political stance. This would help defense workers and employees deserve to be a vanguard force of the working class and the core force in the construction of a strong defense industry, contributing to improving military power for national protection.

Developing the Vietnamese working class in the new period is a long-term and strategic task. It is both urgent and the responsibility of the whole political system and society under the decisive leadership of the Party and the management of the State. Trade union organizations play an important and direct role while workers' efforts and employers’ active participation and contribution are required. The development of the working class must be associated with the building of healthy and strong Party organizations, contributing to the enhancement of the leadership and combat capacity of the Party.

With absolute trust in the leadership of the Party and the thorough study and successful application of Party’s basic principles in developing the working class in the new period, we strongly believe that the working class of Vietnam will increasingly develop and mature, deserving to be a revolutionary ruling class and a leading force in the cause of industrialization, modernization and international integration, contributing to building the nation and firmly protecting the socialist republic of Vietnam, reaching for the target of rich people, strong nation, democracy, equality and civilization.
