PANO – Helicopter Regiment 917 (former Dong Thap Corps), under Air Force Division 370 of the Air Defence and Air Force Service, is stationed at the Tan Son Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh City.
In order to be prepared for all possible contingencies, the unit sent two thirds of its troops to Can Tho province to improve their combat readiness. In addition, Regiment 917’s pilots have recently completed their first training course in 2013.
According to Colonel Tran Van Quang, Commander of Regiment 917, the unit’s troops often accomplished their tasks for many consecutive years.
During the period of construction and development, Regiment 917 was twice presented with the “Hero of the people’s armed forces” title in 1981 and 1989. Along with conducting political tasks, the unit also conducts search and rescue, military transportation and other unscheduled missions.
