PANO - At the Con Tien base area in Con Tien commune, Quang Tri province, functional forces are stepping up the implementation of the “500-day campaign to step up the search, collection, and identification of martyrs’ remains.”

According to information released at a September 9, 2026 workshop held by the provincial steering committee for the search, collection, and identification of martyrs’ remains, a fierce battle took place at Con Tien on May 8, 1967, in which more than 170 Vietnamese officers and soldiers sacrificed their lives.

From March 1992 to August 2022, 83 sets of martyrs’ remains were collected in the area. However, it is estimated that around 80 to 90 sets of remains are still unaccounted for.

To implement the campaign, officers and soldiers of the Martyrs’ Remains Search and Collection Team under Division 968 (Military Region 4) have maintained round-the-clock presence on the ground, working to expand the search area. Following the motto “easy tasks first, difficult ones later,” they carefully excavate each suspected site using scientific methods.

Every piece of information provided by witnesses and every trace discovered at the site brings hope of bringing fallen soldiers back to their homeland. This journey reflects the responsibility, affection, and profound gratitude of today’s generation, with the hope that those who sacrificed their lives on the battlefield will soon be found, properly identified, and returned to their families and comrades.
