At the ceremony

At the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Nguyen Quoc Cuong emphasized the contributions of the President, who devoted his life to the national construction cause and was honored with various orders.

He said embassy staffers have fond memories of the President and remember his words to them during his visit to Japan last June and his trips for medical treatment in the country over the past year.

Phan Dinh Trac, head of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee’s Commission for Internal Affairs, who is on a working visit to Japan, attended the event. Writing in the book of condolences, he conveyed his grief toward the passing of an exemplary and dedicated leader with significant contributions to the building and protection of Vietnam.

International friends and Japanese leaders attended the event to pay their respect.

The Japanese officials included Speaker of the House of Representatives Tadamori Oshima, Justice Minister Yoko Kamikawa, governor of Gunma Prefecture Masaaki Osawa, Chairman of Japan-ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Exchange Group Hirofumi Nakasone, Grand Master of Ceremonies at the Imperial Palace Yoshitaka Akimoto, and leader of the New Komeito Party Natsuo Yamaguchi.

Representatives from Japanese organizations and businesses, local residents and overseas Vietnamese also attended the ceremony.

President Tran Dai Quang passed away at 10:05am on September 21 in Hanoi due to serious illness at the age of 62.

The State Funeral for the President began at 7 am on September 26. The nation observes two-day national mourning on September 26-27.
