The Vietnam Students Association in Rome and the AS VietRoma Football Club organised a football tournament on May 4 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Vietnam-Italy diplomatic ties (1973-2003).

The event attracted eight teams with 80 athletes, which were divided into two groups competing following seven-a-side mini football regulations.

The Com Co Thit (Meal with Meat) team took first place, Milan came in second and third place was shared between AS VietRoma and Trento.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Italy Nguyen Hoang Long highlighted the event as a contribution to reinforcing solidarity among Vietnamese community and students in Italy.

The winning teams and a large number of students and overseas Vietnamese donated money to the Meal with Meat programme that provides nutritious meals and essential items for children in disadvantaged mountainous communes in Vietnam.

Initiated by Dr. Tran Dang Tuan in September 2011, the Meal with Meat programme has spread to 23 countries around the world.
