The third Congress of the Union of Vietnamese Associations in Europe for the 2026-2031 term was held on October 31 and November 1, bringing together more than 200 delegates representing member associations in 24 European countries and five collective member organizations.
The congress adopted revised and supplemented statutes comprising nine chapters and 28 articles. It also decided to rename the organization, from the Union of Vietnamese Associations in Europe to the Union of Associations of Vietnamese People in Europe, and elected its leadership, Executive Committee, Standing Committee and specialized committees.
The new Executive Committee comprises 74 members. Hoang Dinh Thang was re-elected President of the union for the 2026-2031 term, alongside six Vice Presidents and eight other Standing Committee members.
Congratulating the congress on its success, Nguyen Trung Kien expressed his hope that, while continuing to care for community members and strengthen its network of associations, the union would step up efforts to connect intellectuals, experts, entrepreneurs and younger generations of Vietnamese origin.
He also encouraged the sharing of experience, knowledge and technology transfer, innovation and effective development models with organizations and partners in Viet Nam.
During a visit to the Vietnamese language teaching center at the Sapa Trade Center in Prague, Nguyen Trung Kien commended the teachers' sustained efforts and emphasized the long-term importance of preserving and promoting the Vietnamese language abroad.
He affirmed that the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese would continue providing books, teaching materials and support for Vietnamese language education activities within its available resources.
Other proposals would be forwarded to relevant ministries, agencies and authorities for consideration in light of prevailing circumstances.
On this occasion, the delegation donated Vietnamese-language books to the center, helping enrich its teaching and learning resources and encouraging students to continue learning their mother tongue.
