The past few days saw more celebrations organized abroad to mark the 70th anniversary of Vietnam’s August Revolution (August 19) and National Day (September 2).
At a ceremony on September 6 in Brussels, Vietnamese Ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg Vuong Thua Phong said that after 70 years of construction and development, Vietnam has gained great achievements in the socio-economic, diplomatic and cultural fields. Last year, the country recorded a GDP growth rate of 5.98 percent and attracted more than US$20 billion in foreign direct investments.

Vietnam has to date set up diplomatic ties with 185 countries and territories and formed comprehensive and strategic partnerships with numerous states. It is also promoting economic, trade and investment ties with 224 markets in all continents.
Vietnam is now one of the important partners of Belgium in Asia, Phong stated, adding that the two countries’ joint committee on development cooperation will meet in Brussels in November to seek cooperation directions beyond 2015.
The diplomat also spoke highly of contributions by the overseas Vietnamese community to their host country as well as to Vietnam’s nation-building and safeguarding cause.
Similar events were also held in China’s Macau, Mumbai of India, and Mozambique to mark the 70th anniversary of August Revolution and National Day.
On this occasion, the Vietnamese Embassy in Mozambique organized a photo and document exhibition featuring the 40th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties and the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry’s 70th founding anniversary.
