Earlier, the delegation conducted a field study and exchanged practical experience at the Armed Forces Medical Examiner System (AFMES), headquartered in Delaware. At various functional units, the delegation directly observed the operation of the system, biological data management systems and methods for preserving skeletal remains and other specimens.

Speaking at the working session, General Gau affirmed that the application of scientific and technological advances plays a key role in implementing the policy of “When drinking water, remember its source” and caring for national contributors. The information and practical lessons gained from the field study have provided an important basis for National Steering Committee 515 to study, advise on and propose solutions to improve military forensic identification procedures in Viet Nam.
