According to Decision No.795, dated September 16, 2025, issued by the Director of the Thanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the two remembrances were a Geneva Convention ID card and an ID card of James Magnusson, an American serviceman who died in action during the war in Vietnam. The items also included his personal background and photographs of the keepsakes.
At the handover ceremony, Senior Colonel Nguyen Van Hai, Second in Command of the MND’s MIA Office, expressed deep gratitude to the authorities and people of Thanh Hoa province for carefully preserving these keepsakes for many years.
The handover of these objects served as tangible evidence of the joint efforts of Vietnam and the U.S. to put the past behind and look toward the future, while helping the families of U.S. veterans obtain more information to heal the wounds of war.
