Sr. Lt. Gen. Le Huy Vinh addresses the meeting.

The news was released at a meeting of the steering board for the defense ministry-level scientific seminar on April 4 under the chair of Deputy Defense Minister Sr. Lt. Gen. Le Huy Vinh.

Under the theme of “Dak To - Tan Canh Victory, historical values and lessons learned,” the seminar aims to affirm the significant role of the victory in the North Central Highlands campaign and the inevitable developments of the resistance war against U.S. invaders, contributing to the victory of the strategic offensive in 1972 and partly defeating the Vietnamization strategy.

Fifty years ago, under the direction of the Party Central Committee and the Central Military Commission, the Southern troops and people conducted the strategic offensive in 1972 to the outer defense system of the Saigon regime. From Kon Tum province, the armed forces surrounded and attacked the enemy in Dak To base and Tan Canh townlet, liberating a large area of land and dozens of thousands of people.

At the meeting

At the meeting, Sr. Lt. Gen. Vinh applauded efforts of all relevant units in preparing for the seminar and affirmed that the Dak To - Tan Canh Victory was an important milestone in the revolutionary cause of the Central Highlands armed forces and people, marking a great growth of the local armed forces in combined missions and creating a new balance and power for the resistance war.

The deputy defense minister urged the organizing panel of the seminar to continue collaborating with relevant agencies to complete preparation, invite historical witnesses to give opinions at the event to reaffirm the importance of the victory. In addition, they should review articles sent to the seminar with a focus on lessons learned and the sound leaderships of the Party Central Committee, the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense during the historical victory, the coordination between the regular troops and the local armed forces and people, thus to apply to the current national construction and development cause.
