Cambodian officials welcoming Vietnamese delegates attending the ceremony |
The event was presided over by Samdech Pichey Sena Tea Banh, Vice President of the Cambodian People’s Party and Supreme Adviser to the King of Cambodia. Attendees included General Tea Seiha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Cambodia, along with representatives from the National Assembly, Senate and the Royal Government of Cambodia.
Vietnam was represented by a delegation of the Ministry of National Defense led by Deputy Minister of National Defense Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang and a delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong.
The commemoration recalled the events on June 20, 1977, when then-Lieutenant Colonel Hun Sen, Regiment Commanding Officer in Region 21 in Cambodia’s Eastern Zone, (now Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State of Cambodia, President of the Cambodian People's Party, and President of the Senate of Cambodia), crossed the Cambodia - Vietnam border with fellow revolutionaries to seek Vietnam’s support in overthrowing the Pol Pot genocidal regime and restoring peace to Cambodia.

Delegates paying tribute to the fallen |
Despite significant post-war challenges, Vietnam responded to the aspirations of the Cambodian people and revolutionary forces by helping train key cadres, build revolutionary forces and support the struggle against the Pol Pot regime.
At the ceremony, Tea Banh thanked the Vietnamese delegations for attending and expressed deep appreciation to the Government of Vietnam and the Vietnam People’s Army for supporting the development of the Techo Koh Thmor X16 Military Historical Site. He said the site has become a symbol of tourism, economic and cultural development, as well as a border of peace, friendship, cooperation and development.

The anniversary serves as a reminder of the historic struggle to end the genocidal regime and stands as a testament to the enduring friendship, solidarity and close ties between the peoples of Vietnam and Cambodia. The participation of Vietnamese delegations reflected the importance both countries place on their good-neighborly relations, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-term sustainability, while helping strengthen political trust and solidarity between the two nations and their armed forces.
