Minh’s family now live in a solid and spacious house which was built with the support of nearly VND 180 million by Military Region 7 and Long An province and the family’s investment of more than VND 750 million in 2020 in a residential quarter adjacent to the border militia post in Binh Thanh commune, Moc Hoa district. Minh, 60 years old, and his wife, Nguyen Thi Mum, 59 years old, invited soldiers and militiamen to taste their home-grown products, such as green-skinned pomelo, Siamese coconut...

His family has overcome many difficulties to make ends meet in the border area since 1995.

His household economy has been stabilized and developed for five years thanks to the model of planting fruit trees. In the dry season, Minh dug canals around his garden to provide an essential amount of water for trees.

He has also spent much time studying techniques to take care of the garden. Meanwhile, local authorities have also launched refresher courses and transferred technology while providing loans for him. He noted that thanks to convenient road conditions, traders found it easy to come to the garden and buy fruits. In addition, he also developed an animal husbandry model with nearly 10 breeding cows and 50 pigs. The total income from the economic model is VND 400-500 million each year.

Developing rabbit raising model

In 2022, Minh bought ten breeding rabbits. The rabbit grew so fast that he decided to expand the barn to accommodate more rabbits.

Currently, his family has about 500 rabbits, sometimes reaching a peak of nearly 1,200. He held that he had to understand the rabbits, take care of them and clean their barn every day to prevent diseases, to ensure high efficiency and sustainability.

Especially, via refresher courses launched by the local authorities and other provinces, he could connect with many customers in Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong province, thereby earning VND 5 million per month.

“He has also wholeheartedly joined social activities and supported needy households in his hometown, while sharing experience to help them develop economy and stabilize their life,” said Vice Chairman of the Binh Thanh commune People’s Committee, Moc Hoa district, Long An province.
