The troubled fisherman taken ashore safely for further treatment

As reported, on April 28 morning, while patrolling and monitoring the assigned sea area, Ship 418 of Naval Region 4 received an order from its superiors to maneuver to Truong Sa (Spratly) Island to take two patients ashore for treatment. At 6:30 a.m. on April 29, the ship reached Truong Sa Island, picked up the patients, gave them health check-ups and care.

The patients, Ta Van Loc, born in 1993 and Nguyen Thanh Dat born in 2000, both from Long Hai commune, Phu Quy district, Binh Thuan province, were working on trawler BTh 97569 TS with Ta Van Sang, born in 1979, at the helm. The trawler, with 18 people on board, departed Phu Quy fishing port for fishing activities.

At 1 a.m. on April 28, the two patients were taken to Da Dong B Island for emergency aid. After checking them, the doctors determined that they suffered from decompression sickness during diving. After that, the patients were transported by Ship 472 of Naval Region 4 to Truong Sa Island for emergency aid and treatment.

On the way from Truong Sa Island to the mainland, the patients were directly accompanied and taken care by the medical crew of Truong Sa Island.

At present, both fishermen are in a stable health condition. They now can communicate, but their legs are still weak, and they sometimes find difficult to breathe and have chest pain.
