Trawler BT98539 with five fishermen on board was successfully saved by Ship CSB 6001 of Naval Squadron 211 of Flotilla 21 of Coast Guard Region 2.

Earlier on June 9, the Vietnam Coast Guard Command received an information that trawler BT98539 was about to sink due to damages while fishing 63 nautical miles Southeast of Phu Quy Island, Binh Thuan province. 

Immediately, Ship CSB 6001 quickly sped up to reach the scene, announced the incident on 16 VHF channel (a marine VHF radio frequency designated as an international distress frequency), and asked nearby ships to assist the crew-members in conducting search and rescue.

At 2:30 a.m. on June 10, the ship received an information from China’s ship Xin Chang Shu, which was en route from Shehou, Guangdong, that the ship detected and saved five drifting fishermen.

On 5:10 a.m., ship CSB 6001 approached the Xin Chang Shu and completed the procedures to receive the troubled fishermen from the Chinese ship.

The fishermen then had their health checked. The health of all five fishermen is in normal condition now. After completing all essential procedures and handing over the fishermen to the Border Post of Phu Quy Island of the Binh Thuan provincial Border Guard Command, Ship CSB 6001 continued its assigned missions.
