Thuy Phu commune’s militiamen join other local forces to reinforce a dyke to prevent floodwater from entering rice fields. |
At the scene, the militia force actively coordinated with local authorized forces and hundreds of local people to use sand bags, long canvas, and bamboo stakes to consolidate the dyke.
According to Doan Van Huy, Chief of Thuy Phu commune’s Military Command, heavy rain, swift-flowing floodwater, darkness, and time-costing embankment material transportation due to far distance made the dyke reinforcement more difficult. However, with high resolve, the joint forces took advantage of every hour, and every minute, promptly overcame difficulties to move sand bags, plant stakes, and spread canvas to minimize floodwater entering the fields.
At around 23 o’clock the same day, the joint forces controlled and reinforced over 1km of the dyke, thereby preventing floodwater from overflowing into rice fields.
The commune’s military command has assigned its militiamen to keep a close watch on local situational developments while keeping forces and materials in standby for possible dyke reinforcement missions.
