Muong Lat district was among localities which were heavily affected by recent floods.

The flooding submerged 15 hectares of crops in Pong village in Tam Chung commune and destroyed irrigation canals. Over the past three weeks, 100 troops of Regiment 763, the Muong Lat district Military Command and Defense-Economic Unit 5 spared no effort to build shelters, rebuild houses, restore agricultural land and dredge irrigation canals, and help locals soon resume their production and everyday life.

They have worked closely with other units stationed in the locality and Regiment 763 of the provincial Military Command in building shelters for those who lost their houses during the floods, restored agricultural land for the next winter-spring crop and repaired damaged irrigation canals and roads.

Ha Van Thieu, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Tam Chung commune, Muong Lat district, highly appreciated efforts of the provincial armed forces in helping flood-hit localities, especially Pong village where two thirds of its residents lost their houses.

Earlier, during serious floods and landslides in Muong Lat in late August, 139 houses were destroyed, 541 households had to be evacuated and 15 schools, 25 dams, 15km of irrigation canals and roads were destroyed while hundreds of hectares of crops and thousands of poultry and cattle were killed or swept away.
