Troops help locals overcome flood consequences
PANO – According to the Standing Office of the Central Steering Committee for natural disaster prevention and control, floods caused by torrential rains have so far left five dead and four missing in Central localities.
In addition, 23,126 houses were submerged in floodwater; 1,839 people had to flee from their places; 6,965 hectares of rice and 879 hectares of other crops were destroyed; 61,777 poultry and cattle were killed or swept away; and 2,222 meters of dykes were damaged.
Three landslide spots on the North-South railway section in Binh Dinh province were cleared for traffic.
At present, local authorities, on-the-spot forces and local people are working hard to search for missing people as well as to overcome flood consequences.
Regarding the incident at Lai Giang dam in Binh Dinh province, the General Department of Irrigation under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development sent a mission to work with local forces to solve the problem. Earlier, torrential rains caused water levels in the Lai River to rise fast, blocking two doors of in Lai Giang dam.
According to a report from the Office of the National Committee for Disaster Response and Search and Rescue, on December 11, the local armed forces continued to be mobilized to help locals overcome flood consequences and cope with the flooding situation.
Thanks to the efforts, 15 meters of destroyed dyke was consolidated and roads were cleared for traffic. Local armed forces also delivered 380 boxes of water bottles, 480 boxes of instant noodle and 395kg of dried food to people in flood-hit areas in Tam Ky city, Thang Binh district of Quang Nam province.
