Taking good care of policy beneficiaries
PANO - These days, the family of Ma Cong Tuong, a policy beneficiary in Dong Dau hamlet, Dinh Bien commune, Dinh Hoa district, Thai Nguyen province, is happy and excited as the construction of a new house built by the General Department of Political Affairs (GDP) of the Vietnam People’s Army is nearly finished.
For years, Tuong and his spouse had to live in a downgraded house. Due to their old age and modest income, they could not afford to build a new one or even repair it.

A policy beneficiary family in Dinh Hoa, Thai Nguyen receives a lunar New Year 2024 gift. |
Learning about this case, the Policy Division of the GDP’s Department of Political Affairs joined hands with local authorities to support the needy family. It is a meaningful activity in celebration of the department’s 75th anniversary and toward the GDP’s 80th anniversary (December 22, 1944 - 2024).
Colonel Hoang Van Thuyet, Head of the Policy Division, shared that in 2024 alone, the unit has proposed to higher levels to conduct an array of social welfare programs, such as handing over five gratitude houses to policy beneficiaries; giving financial assistance to build affiliated buildings to a kindergarten in Dinh Bien commune; and building a multifunctional hall for Loc Thanh commune, Loc Ninh district, Binh Phuoc province.
In recent years, the Policy Division has effectively submitted proposals to leaders of the department and the GDP to direct the whole military’s units to further boost policy implementation for the military and the homefront as well as gratitude activities in localities. For example, in the lunar New Year 2024 holiday, military units granted gifts, worth more than VND 49 billion, to 228 collectives and over 6,400 individuals, who are policy beneficiaries, martyrs’ relatives, heroic mothers, and national contributors.
In the coming time, the Policy Division plans to focus on suggesting the GDP’s leaders to instruct and direct military units to promptly encourage and support needy troops and military employees; and to mobilize resources to take care of policy beneficiaries and national contributors.
