Tasked with disseminating laws to fishermen, Lieutenant Colonel Vu Thai Anh, Deputy Head of the Law Division under the Coast Guard Region 3 Command, informed participants about the importance of the national sea and islands in the cause of national construction and protection, the Party’s guidelines and State’s laws and policies on safeguarding the national sea and islands in the current context, and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) 1982, among others.

Especially while disseminating information about illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing prevention, he underscored the solutions of the government and relevant ministries and sectors to remove the E.U. yellow card warning against Vietnam.

Lieutenant Colonel Vu Thai Anh held that the dissemination of information has been carefully selected in line with reality at sea and punishments so as to raise fishermen’s awareness.

Through practical activities, troops of Coast Guard Region 3 have gradually changed the locals’ minds and equipped them with useful knowledge to help them keep fishing at sea.

The Coast Guard Region 3 Command has also signed cooperation agreements with provincial Party Committees and Mass Mobilization Commissions of coastal provinces, border guards, and functional forces to conduct law dissemination among fishermen.

Political Commissar of the Coast Guard Region 3 Command Senior Colonel Le Van Tu mentioned various activities to raise the quality of dissemination work to support fishermen to operate at sea according to State’s law and in line with building the whole people’s defense posture at sea.

Meanwhile, the Naval Region 2 Command also focuses on disseminating information to raise fishermen’s awareness. These activities are in the framework of a program themed “The Vietnam’s People Navy supports fishermen at sea” in the provinces of Binh Thuan, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Tien Giang, Soc Trang, Tra Vinh, Bac Lieu, and Kien Giang.

According to Dang Quoc Thuy, Captain of Ship Hoa Binh BLTX-93179 from Ganh Hao town, Dong Hai district, Bac Lieu province, thanks to the dissemination work of naval troops, the fishermen are now well aware of the law, and keep fishing at sea.”

In July, the Naval Region 2, in coordination with the People’s Committees of the three provinces of Bac Lieu, Soc Trang, and Tra Vinh, carried out a program themed "Naval troops sponsor fishermen’s children."

Accordingly, the unit sponsored 15 children of needy fishermen; presented 300 national flags, 100 life jackets, and 100 medical bags to fishermen in each province; offered bicycles and necessities to needy students; provided free health check-ups and medicines to local fishermen... These activities contributed to tightening military-civilian ties.

In order to support needy fishermen, the Naval Region 2 Command called for practical and meaningful assistance of enterprises and sponsors.

In addition, troops of the Coast Guard Region 3 Command also implemented search and rescue missions to save dozens of trawlers and fishermen operating at sea. Besides, they also implemented dissemination work, planted trees, built dikes, and cleaned up the environment along the beach...

These activities aimed to take care of the fishermen, “national markers” at sea, in the spirit of "each trawler is considered a national marker, and each fisherman is a sea keeper.”

According to Ms. Pham Thi Na, Deputy Director of the Ba Ria - Vung Tau provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the sentiments of Uncle Ho’s soldiers towards people in general and fishermen in particular have deepened the military-civilian ties, paving the way for building the people’s determination posture at sea, contributing to local socio-economic development, and firmly protecting national sovereignty over sea and islands.
