Earlier, at 8 a.m. on January 6, the trawler with eight fishermen on board, captained by Duong Van Chau, born in 1972 in Tinh Ky commune, Quang Ngai city, Quang Ngai province, went adrift due to engine failure while fishing about 15 nautical miles southwest of Tri Ton island.

Ship 628 tows the troubled trawler to shore.

Upon receiving the mayday signal, the Naval Region 3 Command sent Ship 628 for the rescue mission.

Despite high waves and strong winds, the rescue ship approached the trawler at 18:50 on the same day and successfully towed it with eight distressed fishermen on board to Ly Son Island safely.
