Nam Yet Island Infirmary gives timely appendectomy to worker
PANO - The infirmary on Nam Yet (Namyit) Island under the Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago has performed emergency surgery on a worker suffering from acute appendicitis.
Reportedly, at 23:00 on March 26, patient D.T.T., born in 2006 in Da Nang city, a worker on Da Lon (Discovery Great Reef) Island suffering from stomachache was hospitalized at Nam Yet Island Infirmary. The medical team from Military Hospital 103 of the Military Medical University, who are undertaking duties in the infirmary, checked his health and diagnosed that the patient had acute appendicitis on the fifth day.

At 06:00 the following day, the health condition of the patient worsened. Ultrasound image showed appendix inflamed in the right iliac fossa with 6mm in diameter. Major, doctor Le Ba Hanh, head of the infirmary, decided to perform appendectomy to save the patient.
The over-one-hour surgery was successful. The patient was in good health conditions later and was discharged from the infirmary on April 1.
Military Hospital 103 has been tasked with ensuring medical work on Nam Yet Island since 1992. Despite difficulties in terms of materials, the infirmary’s staff have always been determined to accomplish all assigned missions, particularly ensuring good health for troops, islanders and fishermen operating in nearby fishing ground.
Experienced doctors and nurses from Military Hospital 103 have given timely diagnoses and treatment to seriously-ill patients, winning trust and love from troops and people.
