VND 1 billion presented to Binh Thanh district to fight COVID-19

The fund was given at the launching ceremony of the peak month for the poor organized by Binh Thanh district.

Saying thanks to the corporation’s cadres and employees for their noble deed, Nguyen Thu Huong, Chairwoman of Binh Thanh chapter of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee called on other enterprises, businessmen, agencies, organizations, armed forces, religious organizations and people from all walks of life to donate to the “For the poor” fund to help ensure social welfare in the locality.

First recipients of the sponsorship program

The same day, the Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation under the Electricity of Vietnam (EVNHCMC) announced that it will set aside VND 7 billion to sponsor 35 needy children orphaned by the COVID-19 pandemic. This is under the memorandum of understanding signed by the corporation and the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs on long-term sponsorship for orphans facing difficulties caused by COVID-19. The orphans will receive VND 24 million a year until they turn 18.

EVNHCMC General Director Nguyen Van Thanh  expressed the corporation’s hope that  this long-term sponsorship program will help the recipients have the conditions to study and be a source of motivation and encouragement for them to have faith and energy to rise up in life. He added that apart from sponsoring these orphans, the corporation also grants scholarships to disadvantaged students with high academic records.
