In order to help people in need settle down and boost economic structural transformation, in recent years, the unit has actively coordinated with local authorities to implement many effective models, such as building more than 300 “military-civilian gratitude” houses. They have become “new villages” for the settlers along the shared borderline.

Dieu Nghen, a 57-year-old resident in the area, said that his family has seven people living in difficult conditions. In late 2020, Defense-Economic Unit 778, in coordination with local authorities, built a “military-civilian gratitude” house for his family. His life in the new house has gradually become stable.

Meanwhile, Dieu Thi Ngao also received a new house and two breeding cows. Besides, the unit also instructed her family on how to develop economy, and her life is now also stable.

Those are two of the 161 houses of S’tieng ethnic minority households in the Dac A residential area, built by Defense-Economic Unit 778 and local authorities of Bu Gia Map district since 2020. The unit and local authorities also offered many necessities to the needy recipients. The residential area is gradually becoming a S’tieng village.

Bu Gia Map is a border district, with many ethnic minority groups, which are still in difficult conditions. Accordingly, Defense-Economic Unit 778, in coordination with local authorities, has taken a number of measures, in combination with the national target program on building new-style rural areas and socio-economic development, to help them reduce poverty and stabilize life.

Since 2016, the unit has built more than 317 houses for policy and needy households and ethnic minority people, forming new residential villages. Each household has also received breeding cows and goats, together with many other necessities.

Besides, over the past five years, the unit has trained and created jobs for more than 600 S’tieng ethnic minority people. They have good income now.

“The programs conducted by Defense-Economic Unit 778 have contributed to helping border people settle down and reduce poverty, promoting military-civilian ties, and building the border areas of sustainable development,” affirmed Secretary of Bu Gia Map district’s Party Committee Ly Trong Nhan.
