Military Officer promptly saves victims of traffic accident
PANO – Lieutenant Tran Viet Nhat, a non-commissioned officer of Factory Z125 under the General Department of Defense Industry, saved two victims of a traffic accident.
His good deed was only learned when the People’s Army Newspaper received a letter of retired Major Duong Trong Liem from the Department of Petroleum under the General Department of Logistics.
In his letter, Liem said that his daughter, Duong Thi Minh Ngoc and her friend had a traffic accident in Luong No hamlet, Co Duong commune, Dong Anh district, Hanoi, on their way to visit a relative. Both victims fell unconscious due to the accident, but people on the street did nothing.

Luckily, an officer jumped from a bus to the scene. He called for assistance and took Ngoc to the Bac Thang Long Hospital, while her friend was sent to the Dong Anh district’s General Hospital.
People also told that at the time, the officer was determined to get off the bus in spite of the protest of the bus driver because it was not a usual bus stop.
After hospitalizing Ngoc, the officer contacted the victims’ families. Thanks to timely phone calls, the families took Ngoc’s friend, who had a heavy injury on the head in the accident, to the Vietnam-Germany Friendship Hospital for urgent surgery. Doctors said they could have not treated the victim if he came to the hospital a bit later. The two victims later recovered.
Through the newspaper, Liem wanted to thank the officer for his good deed, contributing to highlighting the virtue of Uncle Ho’s soldiers.
After verifying the information, the newspaper confirmed that the officer was Lieutenant Tran Viet Nhat. As he himself commented, Nhat only said that it is normal to save troubled people and that anyone would do the same if they are in his circumstance.
