Nguyen Binh, a Da Nang shipowner and maritime militia platoon commander, views the coast guard as a vital support. He noted that the force not only provides emergency rescues but also educates fishermen on maritime regulations. Binh emphasized that these legal sessions boost fishermen’s confidence to operate offshore, supporting the economy and national sovereignty.
In 2025, the Vietnam Coast Guard received over 300 distress reports. The force deployed dozens of vessels and thousands of personnel for 48 missions, including humanitarian relief in Cebu, Philippines, ultimately saving six vessels and 99 people.

Officers and soldiers of Coast Guard Region 4 disseminate legal knowledge to fishermen at sea. |
Major General Tran Van Xuan, Deputy Political Commissar and Political Chief of the Vietnam Coast Guard, stated that the “Vietnam Coast Guard accompanies fishermen” program, launched in 2017, remains a highly effective mobilization initiative. The program focuses on six tasks: legal dissemination, strengthening grassroots politics, supporting socio-economic development, poverty reduction, assisting the marine economy, and helping fishermen maintain operations while safeguarding maritime security.
Through these activities, the Vietnam Coast Guard protects lives and property while consolidating a strong “people’s heart posture” and national defense at sea.
