Captain Kha Quang Trung, owner of trawler BTh 98696 TS, shared, “Since the beginning of the year, my trawler has made five trips. Thanks to coast guards’ support during tough times at sea, fishing has been conducted smoothly, and we always get a good price. I’ve earned nearly VND 1.3 billion.”
Huynh Long, Chairman of the Tan Thang Fishing Association held that Tan Thang is a key fishing commune in Ham Tan district, with 450 trawlers, including 250 offshore fishing trawlers. In reality, offshore fishing brings significant economic benefits, but it also carries high risks.

Presenting gifts to fishermen in Tan Thang commune |
Over the past years, through the “Coast Guards Accompanying Fishermen” program, local people in Ham Tan district, especially in Tan Thang commune, have been well aware of and followed laws and regulations.
Reportedly, over the past two years, no trawlers of the commune’s association have violated regulations, and nearly 100% of crew-members have stable incomes. In June 2024, two trawlers had troubles while fishing in Phu Quy waters, but were promptly rescued by the coast guards. The assistance of Coast Guard Region 3, both onshore and at sea, has helped fishermen overcome difficulties to operate at sea.
According to Senior Colonel Cao Xuan Quan, Deputy Political Commissar of the Coast Guard Region 3 Command, implementing all directives of the higher levels, the region’s chains-of-command have taken measures to support local fishermen. The region has coordinated with local authorities and organizations to disseminate information about laws and assist needy fishermen.
As part of the program, Coast Guard Region 3 also presented 170 gifts to policy and needy fishermen, along with 500 leaflets and 500 notebooks. They also handed over 400 national flags, 40 lifebuoys, many flashlights, and personal life jackets to fishermen at Tan Thang commune’s docking area.
