During the trip, the delegation checked the training and combat readiness observance and preparations for the upcoming lunar New Year (Tet) of the units on Namyit Island. Gen. Cuong expressed delight at and highly appreciated their obtained outcomes. He said that Namyit Island in particular and islands in Truong Sa island district have strictly observed combat readiness regulations, closely followed situational developments, and handled circumstances in the air and at sea in a timely manner, contributing to firmly protecting national sovereignty over sea and islands.

While meeting troops and local people, the Chief of the General Staff hoped that each troop and citizen in Truong Sa island district would continue to stay united and continuously strive to effectively train, contributing to building the island district which is always strong in defense, good in life, and beautiful in environmental landscape, and exemplary in military-civilian solidarity; overcomes all difficulties; and is prepared for all circumstances.

At DK1/16, Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Gau, Deputy Chief of the General Department of Political Affairs and deputy head of the delegation, and members of the mission inquired after and encouraged troops, checked the platform’s logistics supplies and technical services, and grasped troops’ political and ideological situation and determination to fulfill assigned training and combat readiness missions.  

Through the communication system, Gen. Gau encouraged and extended New Year greetings to crew-members of Ships Truong Sa 21 and 743 on duty at sea. On behalf of the delegation, he praised troops’ obtained results and requested them to continue to thoroughly grasp and strictly carry out the order of the Chief of the General Staff on handling circumstances, building regularity, and enforce discipline observance.
