According to Major General Doan Bao Quyet, Deputy Political Commissar of the Coast Guard Command, the contest aims to promote the dissemination of information on seas and islands, the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), the Law of the Sea of Vietnam in 2012, the ordinance of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly on the Vietnam Coast Guard, and the tasks and functions of the Vietnam Coast Guard.

"The event will build patriotism and raise the public's awareness of protecting the national sovereignty over the seas and islands, thus contributing to strengthening solidarity among troops, youth union members and teachers, students and local people,” he stressed.

On the occasion, the Coast Guard Command also presented scholarships for students who have overcome difficulties and hardships and obtained good academic records, and gave gifts to needy families of national contributors in My Loc district.

Since March 2013, the Coast Guard Command has directed its affiliated agencies and units to organize 38 contests with the participation of 2,700 students at 38 secondary schools in 15 provinces across the country. Furthermore, they have presented 740 scholarships, worth VND 640 million, 172 bicycles, nearly 10,000 notebooks, 500 gifts to policy beneficiary families, and needy households.
